freepops

Are you using mail.yahoo.com as your email? Do you want to download your email to your favorite email client? Several years ago, this was possible, but then yahoo close pop3 access to yahoo.com and only provided it to they who pay for their service. As alternative, you may consider using other yahoo domain such as yahoo.co.uk to be able to use pop3.

Building Tag Cloud (3): Tag Cloud on fixed space

Read previous entries:

  1. Building Tag Cloud (1): Tag Cloud is both easy and hard!
  2. Building Tag Cloud (2): Limit the tags!

Last article give you recommendation that the number of tags shown in a tag cloud should be limited. However, some people might have difficulty to adjust this number of tags. They probably deal with a fixed space, where the tag cloud has to be adequate in the space. If I may say, other tag cloud providers just forget about this problem and change their site design so that they don’t have to deal with this problem.

When IT People sing ‘Yesterday’

Nice one…

YESTERDAY
By : Beatles

Yesterday,
All those backups seemed a waste of pay
Now my database has gone away
Oh I believe in yesterday…
..

Suddenly,
There’s not half the files there used to be
And there’s a milestone hanging over me
The system crashed so suddenly
I pushed something wrong
What it was I could not say
Now all my data’s gone and I long for yesterday-ay-
ay-ay

Yesterday,
The need for back-ups seemed so far away
I knew my data was all here to stay
Now I believe in yesterday

Building Tag Cloud (2): Limit the tags!

(if you haven’t read the first section, read it now!)

So, you already have a tag cloud. However, if you keep add new tags, you will face a problem sometimes in the future. Yes, your tag cloud is becoming larger and you are trapped into information flood, one thing we want to avoid. Take this as an example:

tagcloud_big.png

… and the tag cloud is bigger than what my screen can show. You will hardly found what you want easily. Compare this with what Flickr does by limiting the number of tags in tag cloud.

latex-beamer is cool

What tools do you use to create your presentation? I bet most of you will say that you use Microsoft Powerpoint, or maybe OpenOffice Impress. Well, they are the easiest tools to create your presentation, but they are not the best. I guess that is my impression after I see what kind of presentation latex can create. Latex is become one of my first choice since I move to Ubuntu Linux.

Google Docs & Spreadsheet

Google launched two old services into one new service. This service called as Google Docs & Spreadsheet, that is reincarnation of Writely and Google Spreadsheet.

I think this is a big step towards challenging conventional Office suite like Microsoft Office and Open Office. Both Docs and Spreadsheet support collaborative work. Check this screenshot below:

Google buys YouTube…

Here goes the press release

Interestingly, it mention clearly that both companies will run independently. I’m just a little curious, whether they will combine Google Video with YouTube later in the future or not. What do you think?

This acquisition means that Google doesn’t have real competitor in video business, and I don’t think it is good. Both Google Video and YouTube still have a lot of space to be filled.
