Nice way to explain a thing

Introducing a new thing is not as easy as it seems. Even when the concept is actually easy, the ‘oooh…’ effect is hard to obtain. We need a good strategy to get this. For example, the For Dummies series tries to get it by positioning their readers as… well… dummies.

A production company named Common Craft knows exactly how to do this. See the following example on how they explain blog.

Do you like it? If you do, you might want to see their other production in their website. They currently have explanations about what is Wiki, RSS, Social Networking, Social Bookmarking, and Blog.

And there are surely more than that. As they claim “Our product is explanation”. So clients are coming to them with their product and they turn it into an easy to understand production. Check what is Google Docs and their other client work here.

I’ve seen that Google somehow do the same thing. It uses great marketing videos for introducing their product. One example is the video they ordered from Common Craft but their own home video is not bad also. Check their video about new Google Toolbar for IE.

More and more companies use screencast to attract their consumers. Screenshot is not enough, customer needs an interactive introduction to make them at least trying the product. Providing a demo is not enough as trying all demos is just wasting time.
