Seriously, if you are using Leopard and thinking of buying Snow Leopard’s MacBoxSet… don’t.
A little calculation in Amazon.de, you’ll get better deal by buying iWork09: 65,95 €, iLife09: 66,95 €
, and Snow Leopard: 29 €
. In total it costs only 161,45 €, better than the cost of MacBoxSet single: 169 €.
If you’re choosing the family pack, it’s even better. The total cost is 216,85 €: 89,45 € + 78,40 €
+ 49 €
. Better than 229 €.
In the Amazon.com, it’s even better. Even if you don’t own Leopard, don’t buy the Snow Leopard’s MacBoxSet. You got better deal even if you buy the old MacBoxSet : $114.99 + $25
= $138.99 instead of $149.99
. For family: $142.99
+ $43.99
= $186.98 instead of $199.99
.
I wonder why?

In Indonesian online Apple Store, it doesn’t count like that. MacBox Set is cheaper. Dunno if buying it via reseller.
Of course, if you buy from Apple, it will still be better to get MacBoxSet.
Ehm, the box set is targeted at those that do not have 10.5. They can upgrade in one go. The $29 version is only an upgrade from panther(10.5).
@Bart: Ehm as well. 10.5 is Leopard and not Panther. My first sentence:
And if you are in US and don’t have Leopard, buying MacBoxSet Leopard + Upgrade Snow Leopard is cheaper as well.
And the upgrade is actually usable for clean installation also (no.. no.. no.. lawfully).
if u go through apple’s upgrade advisor and read their sentences it also tells u not to buy box set if you own leopard. The macBoxSet is for 10.4 users who dont have iLife too.
If you own Leopard and don’t have iWork09 and iLife09 and you want them all and you blatantly follow the upgrade advisor and you buy them all in Apple Store, Apple will be 18 dollar richer
the upgrade advisor, points all the leopard users to buy snow leopard only version. If you blindly dive in to shopping of course u will make them richer, go and check the advisor.
Meanwhile how can someone who had leopard doesnt have iLife. It is already included in.
Wish i could just attach the screenshot saying leopard users buy $29 upgrade version.
The box set is for PRE leopard users which is cheaper than buying seperate boxes since the 29$ upgrade version is only for leopard.
Leopard includes iLife? huehehehe… this is a joke, right?
Please check and recheck all information. Not all people that own a Mac with Leopard have iLife09. I think you just said that because you buy the Mac with Leopard and iLife09 installed as default, right? Oh my…
Find out which upgrade is right for you.
* Mac OS X v10.5 (Leopard): Upgrade your Mac by purchasing Mac OS X Snow Leopard for $29
* Mac OS X v10.4 (Tiger): Upgrade by purchasing the Mac Box Set, which includes Snow Leopard, iLife ’09, and iWork ’09, for just $169.
iLife is free for all leopard users, do you really own a mac??
and even it is not, the box set you mention is not for Leopard, of course it will be more expensive..
Hahaha… if you buy a new Mac 6 months ago, yes you will get Leopard and iLife 09.
If you buy a Mac two years ago (like me), you’ll get Tiger and iLife’06. Last year I upgrade the OS and iLife, so I have now Leopard and iLife’08. Then I buy iWork’08 as well. Please share what the upgrade advisor said for my case
Are you ignoring my word? This is advice for they who have Leopard but don’t have iWork’09 and iLife’09.
Read again the article and do your research more properly, please…
It is quite clear;
Mac OS X v10.5 (Leopard): Upgrade your Mac by purchasing Mac OS X Snow Leopard for $29
+ if you want iLife go and buy it seperatly which is cheaper like you say.
Do you expect apple to prepare a box set for each version combination of their products..
All i say as long as you read the advisor, it doesnt lead you to spend more..
Hahahaha….:) Either I’m stupid or …
Why the other readers don’t have the same problem as you?
This is a more civilized discussion about this blog entry:

YEah then it is really funny because you were saying “don’t buy the set”!
nevermind, i am not following anymore..
That’s OK Murat. That’s OK.
So just because your case there is a cheaper option you tell everyone not to buy??
I think mutra is right, it is clear that the box is for a specific group and the advisor leads you not bad. No other venture offers deals on all alternatives.
@Sam: I’m not advising everyone. I’m advising they who what to buy Mac Box Set but already has Leopard (like me). This groups will probably think that buy the Mac Box Set is cheaper, because official price from Apple is ($29+$79+$79 > $169). But if look around, you’ll get better deal if you buy them separately.
The advisor is not bad, but if follow them blatantly you’ll buy them all with official price in Apple Store, which is the worst idea. If you buy Mac Box Set, it’s bad idea. If you follow my suggestion, you’ll get the best deal.
If you can’t found any other venture, then please buy Mac Box Set, but at least you’re thinking before you buy (which is actually the main point of this post — if you read this post and decide to go with Mac Box Set, I let you to do that… )
Nanda,
As a regular reader of the post (and mostly enjoy), let me tell you whats wrong. First you are commenting on your very special case, but you are screaming everywhere do not buy.. Most of the cases, apple’s deal is quite ok and keep in mind if you are going to compare the prices you cant just take one price from apple then another from amazon!
Secondly, in europe we people respond in a more polite way you cant just make fun of people who read you. You are the host here, noone asking you to write, if people care to read you should also respond in nice way. Serioßly how old are you..??
You let me do that?
Thanks majesty, i thought it was worth to reply. Who do you think you are to let us buy, omg
@Sam: Sorry for the wrong words selection. By that sentence I just mean that I don’t have any problem with any decision you do after reading the article. It’s just a suggestion afterall.
@Andreas: is it appropriate in Europe to ask someone’s age?
My case is not that special. I believe many people are in my situation and this post clearly mention the target. Sorry if it the title is bothering you, but that’s pretty common for a marketing purpose, right?
Regarding Murat’s case, please judge me… read the entire conversation one more time. I’ve several time asked Murat politely to do more research before making any conclusion. He didn’t do that and that ignited me a bit in that bad day.
My apology to Murat for any word that I’ve said.
